While tourists often come to Las Vegas with the intention of visiting the Strip or Downtown areas, what they don’t realize is how much more there is to explore in this desert paradise. Although the city doesn’t take terribly long to traverse in any direction, there are numerous other neighborhoods worth investigating during your visit. Even the locals are always uncovering something new!
One underrated part of town for tourists is Henderson, NV, a city just to the southeast of Vegas proper. Ready to find out what makes this town worth stopping by? Read on to learn about some Henderson hotspots that will have you making vacation (or staycation) plans.
Henderson is home to some great local businesses.
Some of our favorite spots in town can be found in Henderson, and we’re optimistic that you’ll easily find a new favorite for yourself as well!
There are dozens of fabulous local businesses that have made a home in Henderson, including some Vegas staples, like the Las Vegas Distillery. You can even learn to make your own wine at Grape Expectations. If you’d rather sip on something than concoct it, you can kick back with a cocktail at spaces like The Stove (peep their delicious French toast in the photo below) or The Local. In fact, there’s an entire booze district to explore! Don’t even get us started on the food – we’d eat at spots like Bell’s BBQ every night if we could.
Water Street District hosts a plethora of local businesses, such as an eclectic collection of restaurants and boutiques. It’s a lovely spot to take a nice walk or make a stop for coffee. If you know where to look, you might even find an art piece that speaks to your soul.
There’s plenty of culture, much like throughout the rest of the city.
For more shopping, dining, and exploring, you can check out Lake Las Vegas and enjoy a breath of fresh air with gorgeous views to boot.
Expect the unexpected – Henderson is even home to the Las Vegas Raiders’ and Vegas Golden Knights’ practice facilities. You can also drive a forklift for fun at Dig This, or play the role of a pilot with Sky Combat Ace.
There are, of course, casinos in Henderson as well. The Pass Casino opened this year amidst the Water Street District, featuring both a round-the-clock sports bar and cafe, and the Rainbow Club was renovated and reopened in 2020 with the introduction of the Triple B restaurant.
Furthermore, M Resort provides a quiet and luxurious locals’ experience, and Green Valley Ranch is often hyped up by all, with promenades all throughout the surrounding area. South Point rests between Las Vegas and Henderson and is home to bowling tournaments, a movie theater, and an incredible late-night breakfast selection on the cheap.
Kick back and enjoy the desert’s natural (and manmade) wonders.
From the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve to Seven Magic Mountains, there’s plenty to do and see for animal lovers, aspiring historians, and artists. There are also hiking trails, opportunities to get out on the water and do some paddle-boarding or swimming (yes, even in the desert), and a number of fascinating exhibits to keep your curiosity quenched.
