As 2020 (finally) comes to a close, we’re all looking ahead to (hopefully) brighter days in 2021 and beyond. If we all do our part, it will be possible once again to enjoy some normalcy in our future.
Trips to Las Vegas with the family are on many people’s to-do lists, and we’re here to help you plan ahead! Keep reading for a list of some of our favorite family-friendly excursions within the Las Vegas valley to take advantage of in the new year (once it’s safe to do so, of course).
Get your grub on at a family-friendly restaurant.
Looking to indulge in some good eats? No problem. There’s no shortage of fabulous family-friendly restaurants throughout Las Vegas. Check out our previous blog post for a list of some of the very best kid-appropriate spots in town.
Take a trip up to Mt. Charleston.
Mt. Charleston has it all. Whether you’re interested in exploring the trails, enjoying a picnic, or going horseback riding, there’s something in the Spring Mountains that is bound to excite you. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the changing seasons and the natural flora and fauna.
Go for a dip at Wet'n'Wild.
If going for a swim is your idea of relaxing, why not visit the local waterpark? Lazy rivers, half pipes, and surprise splashes weave throughout the park’s pools. Every experience at Wet’n’Wild is full of new twists and turns!
Bounce around at a trampoline park.
If you and your little ones enjoy getting your bounce on, try visiting FLIPnOUT Xtreme! Those looking for a healthy dose of competition can enjoy unique dodgeball, basketball, or laser tag experiences. Alternatively, why not just enjoy the nostalgia of jumping from trampoline to trampoline?
Learn something new at the museum.
Believe it or not, Vegas is full of educational opportunities. Consider stopping by one of the local museums to see what we mean!
The Mob Museum is a great spot to learn more about organized crime and law enforcement. Walk through simulated scenarios that put you in the middle of a crime scene, get acquainted with the split-second decision making that law enforcement officers encounter on a daily basis, and bring the adults in your party along for the distillery tour. (Yes, a tasting is included.)
On the flip side, DISCOVERY Children’s Museum is a wonderful place to indulge in some kid-friendly activities. Teach your children about environmentally-friendly practices, invite them to indulge in a fantastical performance, or encounter an archaeological mind-bending mystery. Don’t forget to visit the DISCOVERY Lab, a one-of-a-kind space for hands-on experiences, open to little creatives of all kinds.
Otherwise, simply enjoy some neon lights at The Neon Museum! This historic outdoor exhibit showcases the magnificent signs of Vegas’ past and includes both unrestored and stored displays.
Cool down with some ice skating.
City National Arena is one of the coolest spots in the city to get away from the hubbub of central Vegas. Lace up your skates and take some laps – this arena is even home to Vegas Golden Knights hockey practice! Show your love for Vegas hockey by stopping by the merch shop and, if you get hungry, run upstairs for some delicious pizza at MacKenzie River – one of our local favorites.
Catch a performance at The Smith Center.
The Smith Center is a world-class performing arts center known for providing inspiring theatre and educational shows for audiences of all ages. Despite Las Vegas’ existing history as an entertainment mecca, The Smith Center introduced the Valley to entirely new entertainment opportunities. From Broadway musicals to ballets and everything in between, there’s always sure to be an upcoming show that will be a hit with the whole family.
Go visit the Silverton mermaids.
Yes, you read that correctly. The Silverton, a hotel and casino located on Blue Diamond Rd., is home to “real” live mermaids. This is possible through a 117,000-gallon aquarium that hosts thousands of tropical fish and a beautiful LED-filled jellyfish tank at the Mermaid Lounge. Even more surprises are in store at the nearby Bass Pro Shop, with live Koi swimming throughout a stunning Red-Rock-inspired display.
