10月 14, 2020by Taylor Dodson1

Happy October! Now that we’re partway through what is lovingly adorned “Spooky Season,” the holidays are quickly approaching. During this time of year, fall decor ideas are often lurking in people’s minds! While you might have a rotating collection of pieces to spice up your home throughout autumn, sometimes it can be refreshing to grab some new fall accents. While big-box stores often have a plethora of tempting items available, this is a great time to consider supporting your local community instead! Below, we’ve compiled a list of some fun decor ideas and fantastic spots across California and Nevada where you can grab some of these seasonal keepsakes.

Flowers & Plants

Styling flower arrangements and seasonal plants is one of the most lively and vibrant ways to change up your home’s ambiance throughout the year. Some shops and nurseries even offer opportunities to take arrangement classes yourself, so you can put together a colorful bloom that works for your environment! The Tiny Bloom is a floral shop in Las Vegas that offers beautiful bouquets and arrangements among other home goods, including hand-painted planters and vases. North Park Nursery in San Diego is another one of our favorites, offering a fun variety of succulents, cacti, and other beautiful plants to brighten up your space.

Pumpkins

Local pumpkin patches are often one of the most enjoyable aspects of the fall season. From pumpkin picking and carving to enjoying hayrides and baked goods, these venues always provide treasured memories. There are so many ways in which a pumpkin can contribute to your fall decor. Whether you love hefty pumpkins straight from the patch, mini pumpkins, painted pumpkins, or carved pumpkins, there are dozens of ways to spruce up your space. Try visiting a local pumpkin patch or farm, where you can often pick pumpkins straight from the vine and participate in decorative activities and contests. Each Halloween Town Pumpkin Patch in Las Vegas is a great place to visit for plenty of fun fall activities – and, yes, to take home a pumpkin of your own!

The autumn season is perfect for snapping new photos. Between the colorful leaves and changing desert and mountain landscapes, you can find a prime photoshoot location nearly anywhere. You can take your own pictures and frame them yourself, hire a local photographer to handle the technical aspects for you, or stop by a photobooth at a local farmhouse. Stone Soup Farm, for instance, offers photography vignettes that are sure to make for wonderful additions to your walls! That’s in addition to the numerous other family activities offered at the farm, like tomahawk practice, archery, garden exploration, gemstone panning, and cider pressing!

Handmade Crafts

Hand-traced turkeys, pumpkins of all sorts, and tissue-ghosts are just a few of the different handmade crafts that can add some charm to your home this season. Check with your local museums, libraries, and exhibits for both in-person and virtual activities that the whole family can enjoy! Then, try finding any of the necessary supplies at local vendors, such as stationary shops, pumpkin patches, or flower shops!

Seasonal Fruits & Veggies

From apples to squash, there are plenty of different fruits and veggies that are ripe for the picking during the fall! Local farmer’s markets can be wonderful spots to bulk up and learn new recipes from local artisans. Apples are one of the most beloved and versatile fall ingredients, being used in everything from soup and cider to applesauce and pie. Willowbrook Apple Farm is one of the best places to go apple picking, cider pressing, and explore different berry wine offerings. A rustic atmosphere and wide range of sweet treats available for you to bring home add to the autumn charm of this venue and make it a worthwhile stop all season long.

In addition to being perfect for fall recipes, these seasonal ingredients can also make for lovely centerpieces throughout your home, particularly in the kitchen. As you pick them up to use in a dish, you can rotate them out with other selections! Farms like the ones we’ve highlighted throughout this blog post are also really great places to go hunting for some fresh foods.

We also want to let our readers know about a fabulous historic Californian venue, Los Rios Rancho, whose property was recently impacted by a devastating fire that consumed many of the farm’s structures. While the history and memories of this land cannot be replaced, a GoFundMe is currently set up to help those at Los Rios Rancho rebuild what they have lost as best they can.

The farm is also still hosting seasonal events, including at their partner across the street, Wilshire’s Apple Shed. Delicious eats, live music, mercantile gifts, and tasty cider are all on tap here. Preservation and education is a priority at these venues, and we encourage those in the area to give back to these historic local venues should they have the means.
